This is great. Pickin’ and Trimmin’ by Matt Morris Films.
At The Barbershop in Drexel, NC, the atmosphere is laid back, the conversation free, and the music a cut above the rest. Emmy® nominee, Official Selection of over 60 film festivals, and Best Documentary Short Film winner at the Florida Film Festival and Woodstock Film Festival. From Vimeo.

Stevie and I had the pleasure of seeing these guys at the Mcdowell Mountain Music Festival today. It was perfect weather and perfect music. These guys played some old, and I mean 1855 OLD, songs and it was amazing to hear. Enjoy!
From Band website:
“highlighting the central role African-Americans played in shaping our nation’s popular music from its beginnings more than a century ago. The virtuosic trio’s approach was provocative and revelatory. Their concerts, The New York Times declared, were “an end-to-end display of excellence… They dip into styles of Southern black music from the 1920s and ’30s—string-band music, jug-band music, fife and drum, early jazz—and beam their curiosity outward. They make short work of their instructive mission and spend their energy on things that require it: flatfoot dancing, jug playing, shouting.” - Michael Hill

Tim Eriksen is a true preservationist of the American music tradition. His deep and soulful renditions of classic american folk ballads and shape note gospel strike a chord on the pull strings of any folk lovers heart. Focusing on classic tunes of the late 19th and early 20th century, his music echoes the gospel traditions of New England and the bare boned ballads of Southern Appalachia. If you’re laying in a ditch staring at the sky and death comes knocking on your door, truly Tim’s music would become your sountrack. You might know him from such soundtracks as, “Oh Brother Where Art Thou”, and “Cold Mountain”. Tim sings the music of my childhood, the gospel tunes and old timey songs my grandmother use to hum. Enjoy.

I’m just listening for the ancient tones, and once I’ve learned to listen, I mean really listen, I’ll come down from the mountain and make a record as loud as New York City and as lonesome as the Cumberland Gap. Then I can die, Believe that.
one of my top 10 badass quotes of all time.
